  • The internet is what you make it. I’ve never spent much time on overtly corporate media social or otherwise. Combined with largely avoiding the most politically toxic places both maga or ML.

Most of my time online is spent visiting places focused on retro Computing, Retro Gaming, music or some other hobbies. The internet hasn’t changed drastically in 30 years. Just the way average people use it.

The corporate sites will never respect your time or privacy. They’re just endless treadmills to keep you busy and engaged. We’ve always been able to hop off.

  • Their comment didn’t defend anyone. Funny you act like it did.

The sins of the United States don’t justify others committing them.

China is as much on the rise as 1950s United States. And if you think it can be sustained unlike the US. You haven’t been paying attention.

That said, the people of both countries definitely have a lot in common. Sexism, bigotry and racism being some of those things. You are extremely sanitized interactions on red note are cute and quaint. But not truly representative . We also have a need to throw off our wealthy governing elite. Whether its trump and friends or the Xi pack in the forbidden city. The regular person will suffer as long as they stay in power.

  • You singled it out. Which was incorrect. Hatred of minorities is common in every culture on every continent of the Earth. It’s a basic human nature thing. And America isn’t special in that respect. Hell when you get into large monocultures like China Etc the racism and hatred of minorities gets even more extreme and specific. In fact a lot of those hatreds have been imported from all over. The Koreans hatred of the japanese. The Japanese is hatred of the Chinese and vice versa. Various Indian sects hatred of each other. And the colorful bigotry of Europe and the Mediterranean. But one thing it is also produced here in America that is a little less common than elsewhere. Are people that actually are much more tolerant and supportive of minorities. Unfortunately they’re not the ones in control but they do exist.

  • This is my last response to you

Don’t threaten me with a good time.

Link whatever you want. But prove your point. You keep saying correlation equals causation. But they’re two different words with two different meanings. Correlation does not imply causation.

I absolutely believe the timing of this was influenced by those sanctions 100%. I also believe it was influenced by both China and Russia attacking International infrastructure. Things like the other side of the table being cut , or the ZX back door orchestrated by China last year.

I believe all these things factor into why Linus and the foundation CHOSE to expel those contributors. Because they are vulnerable to those authoritarian States. And are thus a vector to attack the projects. Which they did not have staff or funds to audit and ensure they weren’t.

You keep implying that this was not a choice that Torvalds and the foundation did it against their will. Despite Torvalds posting the opposite. You can keep linking to the sanctions all you want. And while I think the sanctions played a part in this. I still think Torvalds and the foundation chose to do it on their own. And were not under duress to comply. Unlike your average Russian or Chinese citizen. Not that the West is Worlds better.
