Capitalism can’t innovate.
Gentle nerd freak of the pacific northwest. All nation states are vermin.
Capitalism can’t innovate.
I imagine it would make fake-account-driven influence operations much harder, and it might drive down total online time.
This is a troll account with a post history of straight trolling. Report and block is the only appropriate response.
Ugh … Transatlantic train?
Google encourages “protecting your business against costly state regulations”
Just remove the ‘y’ from ‘your’ and the sentence goes from lie to truth.
This kind of system is how you get the consistency and excellence that microsoft are known for.
Unless they’re axing the top 5% of the org chart, they’re not cutting the lowest performers.
"I even invested some of my own money into obtaining the drafts and some of the rights,” Yen said.
I’m sure he has more than enough money to do this, but … some of the rights? How could a movie based on a single video game require multiple sets of rights?
Well completely unrelated is maybe an overstatement.
English and Chinese is the common example of unrelated "mama"s, but there is a non zero chance that they are distantly related - beyond the time depths accessable by the comparative method of linguistics.
It could be that “mama” or a very similar word dates back to like Ancient North Eurasians or some older population ancestral to both Chinese and English speakers.
If any one word could survive that long, some form of “mom” is a good candidate, but yeah the most popular theory is that something about the “m” sound makes it more likely to be in the word mama.
statistically significant amount of whistleblowers are actually just liars … When their lie catches up with them … decide to end it all"
This is a very unlikely situation.
These stories of nefarious liars abusing poor defenseless corporations would be publicized widely if true. We’d have prominent, well known examples.
This needs people who think the threats and reputational damage of being a whistleblower are worth it for the ‘recognition’, who are smart enough to construct a believable sounding claim but not smart enough to see the inevitable consequences. That specific kind of person is going to be much rarer than people who work for a legitimately shitty company and don’t like it.
New CEO Assassination side missions 🤞🙏
I really wish we could popularize the term shit-in, but it’s just too beautiful for this world.
Grifters trying to stymie competing grifts is the ideal use of our throughly corrupt court system. Just the perfect venue for that. It’s like an inception of lies and money.
I always presumed Yoda’s native language was an Object Subject Verb (OSV) language, or used OSV for emphasis. It’s common for 2nd language speakers to occasionally slip into native language grammar - such as Chinese speakers omitting the/a.
Yoda can correctly use SVO in English (Galactic Common iirc?), just not all the time. Again suggesting a proficient non-native speaker. For example: ”Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.”
Yaddle doesn’t speak like Yoda, indicating either better fluency or an SVO native language - not all the species need speak the same native language.
It’s not outside capital that leads to enshittification, it’s leverage that enshittifies a service.
A VC that understands that they can force you to wreck your users’ lives is always in danger of doing so. A VC who understands that doing this will make your service into an empty – and thus worthless – server is far less likely to do so (and if they do, at least your users can escape).
Incredibly clear article pointing out that no individuals will ever be able to resist enshittifaction pressures indefinitely.
The only way to prevent people with power from emiserating others is to structurally remove any benefit to doing so.
textual info, though. Like, something you can read.
I think they probably do, but like other early forms of record keeping, the focus definitely seems to be numbers. IIRC there are some knots that just don’t look like numbers.
The Chinese also used knots to record details of events, not just numbers, but the system that is used to decode the knots was complex enough that it functioned like a cipher - without already knowing how they did it, there’s just no way you’d be able to work it out.
I can’t recall the details but I think it’s covered in the Ancient Americas video on the khipu on youtube.
We had magic mirrors and magic fans for centuries tho.
We’ve had solar and wind electricity generation for centuries?
Burning down your house doesn’t poison people thousands of years later, so it’s not a perfect analogy.
Plus we have magic mirrors and magic fans that do the same thing as the magic rocks just way cheaper.
In case you were curious how this publicly funded research is going to be turned into private profits.
