A 50-something French dude that’s old enough to think blogs are still cool, if not cooler than ever. Also, I like to write and to sketch.

  • I’ll avoid it as one of the manifestos mentions that we should be being kinder and look out for each other.

I won’t blame you for that, quite the contrary :)

But since it’s obviously one way to look at it, I thought I should mention it.

I’ve added your community to the sidebar. If you know of others that might fit, let me know.

    Thx for the link.

Beside the ones I listed in the sidebar already? I follow a few that are related to old tech, others that are more into ‘simple’ and peaceful content. Alas, like often here on Lemmy, quite a few of them see little to no activities. Next to the journaling community I’ve decided to focus on the other community I would love to see grow and be active is the Simple Living one. It was one of the communities I appreciated the most back on Reddit (with great mods and great overall participants, useful content with little negativity/hatred or even drama) [email protected]

I also consider the Calvin & Hobbes community a great complement to any timeline. The humanism and the kindness that come out of every single strip of that wonderful comic is more precious than ever [email protected] (I happily look at the new strip posted each day, even though I own all the comics)

And then there are the others communities. Things like [email protected] or I don’t know [email protected], and quite a few more.

I don’t know if the full list of my subscriptions is visible when looking at my profile, here on Lemmy? Let me know if it isn’t and I will send you a copy of them so you can see by yourself. Many of those communities can share content related to getting back control (on our lives/activities/the things we do and the things we use, the world we (want to) live in), and most will do it in a non-hostile way, but that is also not their main topic so I’m not sure you may want to include that many ;)

  • Any ideas for an icon and banner gracefully received.

    • Something related to land/landscape and growing culture or stuff? Something peaceful at humane scale.
    • Something related to simple/basic HTML and CSS code, like they used to be back then?
    • A journal/diary page maybe? But some may suggest I’m not that objective here :p
    • I try to avoid vindictive content myself but you may also consider showing the demise of that shi… corporate Web, say in the guise of some ruined ugly building/factory, and the grow of a more organic and once again fully personal Web (a tree or whatever)?

I’m no graphic designer but I made the banner/icon for our small journaling community ([email protected]). If you like it and if you think I can help you in any way contact me I would be happy to help. BTW, I also promoted your new community to our members as I think they might really be interested in what you want to do ;)

  • While Firefox is a completely separate entity from Chrome, Mozilla does recognize that some things are better off standardized. So if you’re worried about your extensions not working on Firefox, that shouldn’t be a problem.

?!? What does that even mean?

Most people will understand that as ‘my chrome extensions will work on FF’ or as ‘my chrome extensions are also available for FF’, which is not true. There are alternatives, yes, but there is real probability they will not find an exact alternative to whatver their most important chrome extension is. Yeah, there are also much better extensions available on FF (looking at you, my dearest and unrivalled uBO) but people usually don’t give a crap about that, or they would have ditched Chrome already.

I am all from promoting FF but not by using so large an… approximations. I almost wrote ‘lies’ but those are not exactly lies, they’re just missing the whole point by trying to make things (uselessly) look better than they are.

    Edit: clarifications.

  • Your source is missing a bunch of chromium-based browsers to add up to 100%, and there’s no methodology or statistics explanation.

FFS… I listed the first four results of the first web search result I got. Also, may I remind you that me quoting only the four first results (unfiltered) of a longer list doesn’t change a thing on the ranking: on those 4 firsts (aka, the browsers occupying the 1st to the 4th places, aka the ones ranked before the 5th, 6th places and so on), two of them are not Chromium-based. That’s all I was saying.

    For the rest:

    1. Feel free to quote other sources, obviously. I would be happy to see other numbers with some more of that ‘methodology or statistics explanation’ you’re talking about.
    2. Have a nice day.

Just had a look, there is no post at all for the moment?

Edit a bit later: there are a few posts already, see @[email protected] answer just below my comment.

    (and I subbed ;))

Maybe you should post something(s) right now and not wait until January if you want people to sub or, like you mentioned, to start suggesting ideas.

Imho, the perspective of facing an empty community with zero discussion going on until next January will not encourage participation.

  • No, I did not see that. Thx! That’s clever.

BTW, I loved this old t-rex logo and felt, well, if not betrayed quite disgruntled the day they replaced it. Loved it so much that occasionally I still wear my old Mozilla ‘Take back the web’ t-shirts, the ones with the t-rex printed on a red star. It’s as cool today as it ever was, if you were to ask me :p

  • I’ve been using Firefox since it was called Netscape, and before that I was using Mosaic. Nowadays, I’m also using Safari (and Vivaldi) but I still can’t imagine not using FF as my default browser. More exactly, FF with the uBO extension, which is another nice gift to all of us — a bit like FF pop-up blocker was back then.

I would have loved if they had released an anniversary icon for FF. Too bad they did not, but that’s probably just me getting old, all nostalgic and sentimental :p
