And reading an article from TechCrunch,

“The social network has a Twitter-like user interface with algorithmic choice, a federated design and community-specific moderation.”

“Is Bluesky decentralized? Yes. Bluesky’s team is developing the decentralized AT Protocol, which Bluesky was built atop.”

“However, the launch of federation will make it work more similarly to Mastodon in that users can pick and choose which servers to join and move their accounts around at will.”

So it definitely is pitching that is it decentralized and federated. Maybe the argument is that it “will be”, but at the moment it is not and at the moment it does not look like it will be an actual possibility.

Now people leaving Twitter is great, don’t get me wrong, but it’s possibly just kicking the can down the road. In a few years we’ll likely have articles complaining about missing “Old Bluesky” and how “new Bluesky” has the exact same problems that “Old Twitter” had.

  • So I’m torn.

I think a notification before the film is enough to acknowledge the mistakes of the past.

In general I am against a film being changed after the fact. Although more accurately I’m against a film being changed after the fact without making the original available.

For example when George Lucas added new scenes to Star Wars, while some were just unnecessary CGI, others like “Han Shoots First” or the introduction of Jabba in A New Hope changes the film.

Additionally we have changes to E.T. to make the guns into Walkie-Talkies, which is just silly.

Of course we also have the Extended Edition of The Lord of the Rings, which also change the film, but arguably for the better.

Also films like Blade Runner have multiple editions.

We also have the more recent “Justice League” vs “Zach Snyder’s Justice League”, which are two similar films, but also quite different.

  • Unless there is another quote the exact quote is, “he’s not my Luke Skywalker”, which is true.

The Luke Skywalker we got in the sequel trilogy is not the Luke Skywalker I would have written. It’s a shame they story that was told.

However the Luke Skywalker we saw in The Mandalorian? That’s the Luke Skywalker I want to see. It’s not perfect, but it’s damn good.

So if we’re doing a Rey film, and she wants to start a Jedi Order, then I want to give Luke the chance to show what he did. Show what worked. We can’t take back the sequels, they happened. But we can do what Dave Filoni has been doing for years and fill in some gaps.

  • I feel like you didn’t read the article and just want to be angry. That’s not even close to the answer.

The answer is James Gunn considers Creature Commandos and anything after that as canon. Creature Commandos introduced characters, Creature Commandos killed characters. Their introductions and deaths are canon. This will hold true for Superman and all future projects.

The “issue” is that The Suicide Squad was born in the former canon that was the DCEU. The story about characters like Harley Quinn are based on the existing DCEU established lore. Amanda Waller had an existing backstory. Rick Flag Jr had an existing backstory. Gunn did an excellent job weaving those stories into The Suicide Squad. He saved those characters.

But you know who he didn’t save? Deadshot. The Joker. Killer Croc. Enchantress. Those characters are fucked. Gunn was handed the keys to the DC kingdom and you’re going to say “but the Joker has to be Jared Leto and edgy”. That would be fucking stupid.

No, the answer is in Creature Commandos we go “after Project Starfish, we need a new plan”. Project Starfish was the suicide mission featured in The Suicide Squad.

We establish that in general the events of The Suicide Squad happened. Did Harley Quinn stab a giant alien starfish in the eye in the new canon. Possibly. But if James Gunn wanted to say, actually she wasn’t on that mission, that’s ok too. It’s not the direction we’re likely even headed given the plan for Batman Brave and the Bold but he’s saying he wants the freedom.

In fact, let’s talk about Peacemaker season 1. That’s an excellent show. However at the end of season 1 there is a brief cameo of The Justice League. They do not affect the plot. The joke is that they arrived too late. But we do see Jason Momoa as Aquaman. Should James Gunn be forced to continue the Aquaman story with Momoa?

No. Momoa is Lobo now and that’s an excellent choice. What about that slight inconsistency? It’s not a big deal at all. If you are super attached to canon make that Universe A and the new canon Universe B and just say we’ve left Universe A behind but Universe B is similar.

But also, do you realize how petty this all is? If James Gunn just said, “Nothing before Creature Commandos is canon” and then changed absolutely nothing about his plan, we’d all be fine. We would pickup the Creature Commandos story and go “Hey, the problems Amanda Waller is dealing with sounds pretty similar to what would have happened as a result of The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker”. If you wanted to just pretend that’s the truth, that’s fine. However if you’re sick of the characters you’re following be reset, well good news, some of them aren’t.

Yes, Superman is being reset. Superman is a big fucking deal. Superman has been reset before. We had Christopher Reeve as Superman. Great Superman. But one day that story ended. Eventually we’re telling stories about a new Superman.

We had Michael Keaton as Batman. He got to play Batman twice. But then it was Val Kilmer and things got a bit cheesier. And then it was George Clooney and things got very cheesy. Did those films hold canon to each other? Not really.

Well we’ve got Cinematic Universes now. An infinitely expanding universe is tricky and complicated. Even comic books canon have had massive resets. Sometimes you get one of stories. Sometimes you get the universe. Some adaptations are faithful and some sew the characters mouth shut and give him teleporting powers.

James Gunn and Peter Safran are starting a new universe. It’s going to have some familiar things. It’s going to have even more new things. Someday we’re going to have a new Superman, but for now they’re saying this is where we’re starting. (And by starting I don’t mean this is where the universe starts, this is just where the camera picks up.)

  • I’m no lawyer but I don’t even think it’s that complex.

The law as written states “…However, the prohibition does not apply to a covered application that executes a qualified divestiture as determined by the President.”

It goes on the clarify in a little more detail what a " qualified divestiture" is, but ultimately the determination seems to be by the President.

Trump can “make a deal” that he considers a “qualified divestiture” and allow the app again. For example ByteDance can sell TikTok to AmericaDance, a new company that just so happens to work for and does everything ByteDance does.

Now this wouldn’t hold up in any real court, but that would take A LONG time to resolve at which point Trump declares a win and likely everyone just moves on. Bonus during the 2028 election Vance or whomever can say that Democrats want to ban TikTok.

  • If no one cares enough to reopen it once every 6 months, then it’s probably fine to ignore it indefinitely.

It’s a matter of psychology. If I file a bug and it is ignored for years, I’m annoyed but eventually I either accept it, find a workaround or move on to something new. I may still file bugs in the future, especially if I’ve got a workaround, since other people probably want to know.

However if my bug is closed and I have to reopen it every six months. Now I’m kinda pissed. I have to be reminded every six months for years that this is just broken. I put in the effort, but now some bot has just come along and closed it. Plus it’s going to be harder to find an existing or similar bug. I’m less likely to look at closed bugs. But also, what if I find four similar closer bugs. Now if someone was tracking that bug they don’t realize this has happened to four different users. If we had just kept it in one big we’d all know. Also someone elses workaround is better than mine, or maybe it’s worse.

I understand if a project wants to declare bug bankruptcy. It shouldn’t happen often but if you do that’s the time to organize things.
