Solar and Wind are cheaper than nuclear now. The main problem is it’s not sunny and/or windy every day. A carbon capture system doesn’t need to be running 24/7 though.
If we build way more wind/solar than we use then the excess can dumped into things like this.

It’s more due to the fact that 12 can be divided evenly by 2,3,4,6, and 12. If a single person couldn’t afford a dozen they could split it among other people.
Like most things, it’s a mix of factors. If there’s a culling there will be less supply which will result in higher prices temporarily. But the few companies that control production are kinda just taking their time in lowering the prices once the supply issues are resolved. So there’s a real issue, but there’s also greed making it worse than it should be.
Yeah but the others are US companies. They can be regulated. Which they don’t want and they will at least make an effort to get rid of at least the obvious disinformation.
With TikTok, there is no middle ground. Can’t keep them in line with the threat of regulation as they’re a foreign company. Operating in the country that has superseded Russia as the biggest source of disinformation. The only leverage they have is the threat to ban it outright.
Besides, Zuckerberg and Musk live in the US. They don’t want things to get too bad. Though they’re so disconnected from reality they may inadvertently make things bad. But they at least have an incentive to not have the US go to shit.
With TikTok, US cities could burn to the ground and they’ll still be fine. And we see TikTok making people particularly unhinged already.

It is what it is. I already left reddit because of their bullshit owners. There’s still way better communities on reddit than on lemmy.ml, and as bullshit as the owners of reddit are, they’re still not as bad as the owners of lemmy.ml. So if it were really an issue to me I’d just go back to reddit. But it’s fun to discuss things in smaller communities so I’ll stick with lemmy, just not lemmy.ml.
