  • I mean isn’t that at least some extent technically true to a level.

I mean if we weren’t talking a shitty corporation to begin with. If this were say, a 20 year old mcdonnalds worker pirating game of thrones.

IMO the bigger concept is still rather than if they got it… defining whether using that data after the fact is legal. I mean hypothetically speaking lets just say they bought 1 copy of each of the millions of books, or bought used copies, or say had a machine that could scan every book in a library. IMO the issue shouldn’t be whether or not anyone managed to download the books in their pure form afterwards. The focus should be the AI trained on their books, is going to be distributing portions of their book to millions of people, and any potential profits of such will be going to meta and uncredited to the original authors. The idea that meta’s involvement in torrenting may have let little timmy get a copy of his text book 15 seconds faster… shouldn’t be the driving force here.

All basic needs met just for existing!, Being a domesticated animal actually does seem like it beats the hell out of wild life…

Course I suppose it depends on what animal what context. Obviously a workhorse, or any food animals would be pretty horrific. I’d imagine though zoo animals, pets, etc… would be pretty superior lifes than even humans carve out for themselves.

While yeah also an insane horror movie plot if “when they turn 40, they walk into that barn and never come out”.

Honestly can you imagine how weird domestication must be to wild animals… Like just imagine driving down into a back roads area… noting some large ugly creature there… then seeing a small luxury area but still completely foreign to you, and inside it are people. You approach and be “Hey who are you? want to come to society”, and they are like “nah long as we do these weird tasks we don’t understand for these random other creatures, they feed us and let us sleep on these comfy beds… were cool man”.

  • Which I agree with… IE I like the system of “your camera catches a hit and run”, you can go knock on their door, ask them to share the footage with you… and you give it to your lawyer, cops or insurance adjusters as you see fit.

What people like me don’t like is the idea that the cops decide to search your permission, use your footage to prosecute a crime you wouldn’t want to. Imagine the same scenerio… except instead of a hit and run… lets say it was say someone delivering pot… or a hispanic person just going home for the day, and ICE was looking for someone to bother, etc…

Point is we’re all happy to be witnesses to crimes that hurt people. but we also know you give cops too much power… and you’ll find horrible things happening

  • But if all these generative models are so designed to replace the people upon whose videos they’re based, who/what will train the next generation of models, I wonder?

Maybe we hit a regular cycle…

IE Data is all trained on real video, gets good enough that humans cannot differentiate. Real video becomes rare, AIs are now training on AI videos. Result… AI video becomes effectively copy of copy of copy of copy… degredation becomes obvious. as mistakes are now compounding. AI developers have to start creating and introducing un-tampered video to train with. AI starts to get better.

  • I mean off the bat that’s one of the worse combinations of people/product I’ve ever seen. I mean off the bat electric car’s target market is people that want to think they are doing something better for the environment.

So… then the guy making them goes loudly in the “fuck the environment” group.

To top it off though, Cybertruck itself always confuses me. I don’t know who the target audience is. The original tesla’s I could look at and think, that’s a cool car, if they ever came down in price I’d be interested.

Cybertruck you look at and think… What a car would look like if you scaled up games from the 32/64 bit console era and made them HD without increasing the polygon count.

Tardigrades are awesome, but what about those unaging jellyfish?

I mean yeah still not quite the same thing. IE obviously I don’t see jellyfish surviving in space. But do tardigrades age?

Which side note it looks like they do… while they can basically go in suspended animation, waterbears seem to have about a 3 year lifespan.

So, these guys are virtually unkillable for 3 years, but Turritopsis dohrnii while it can be killed, can live forever.

  • We’re talking about the need for a system to deal with major access of a main facebook/insta/twitter etc… to a majority of people.

IE of the scale that someone can go “Hey I bet my aunt that I haven’t talked to in 15 years might be on here, let me check”. Not a common occourance in a closed off discord community.

Also, noting that doesn’t fully solve the primary problem… of still being at the whims and controls of a single point of failure. of which if Discord Inc could at any point in time decide to spy on closed rooms, censor any content they dislike etc…

  • To me the reality of it is so damn stupid, If this were back to lying about quake, that’s one thing. He’s claiming on games with continual progression however. Of which even if you have amazing skill, it’s meaningless without time. IE it would be well understood that if someone is in those leaderboards legitimately, they’ve been living the NEET lifestyle (IE spending almost all waking hours playing the game), not say… on a nation tour following around a presidential candidate, while also forming a new government consulting group, spending considerable time on twitter as a user… and being a micromanaging incompetent CEO at 4+ companies.
