Leeks with Mushrooms and Cabbage
Serves 4 to 6 people Prep time: 15 minutes Cook time: 30 minutes
Ingredients: ● 2 large leeks, coined ● 1 small cabbage, rough chopped ● 3 C assorted mushrooms ● broth ● olive oil ● salt and pepper to taste
In a large pot, heat some oil over a medium flame. Add the mushrooms and saute until they give off their water. Be patient - mushrooms are very wet, and they need to be cooked down. This can take ten or more minutes. Add in the leeks and cabbage once most of the water has cooked off, and stir well. Add salt and pepper to taste, as well as another drizzle of olive oil if required to keep the ingredients from sticking to the pot. Continue to saute until the leeks and cabbage are soft. The flavor of morels, shitake, or oyster mushrooms really shine through in this kind of dish. However, you can make it with plain button or portabella mushrooms just as easily. It’s also possible to make these with dried mushrooms. Simply rehydrate them before cooking. They will not let off as much water when cooking, of course.
What kind of music are you into and what do you play?
IMSLP has a ton of stuff.
I don’t think I’ve gotten to that one yet.
My kid and I are really into Bushido Ball, which is such a cool game.
UFO50 is probably my favorite release of last year.
Do you have a source? I appreciate the info, but it’s not worth the lives of my pets if I’m wrong. One careless mistake means I’ve left the pan on too long, and they’ve got respertory damage.
I love the properties of cast iron for cooking so I’m not really sure I even care to switch, but I do like to know when I’m wrong.
I’ll look into ceramic skillets too, those sound cool. I do love iron though. I’ve got a BSR from the 40s that’s smooth as glass and can do scrambled eggs with no problem.
Thanks! I love cast iron, so I have quite a few pieces.
I’ve got pet birds, so I can’t cook with Teflon because if it overheats it outgasses a chemical that’s deadly to them. But that suits me just fine, because I can use metal utensils in these, and for anything acidic I’ll just break out the enamelware.
I do have a couple stainless pots, but they rarely make it to the stove, really just for sauces.
Fascinating video!
I went looking for some footage of Kowloon a few months ago and I couldn’t find anything. I’m glad she recorded this while she could.
I watched the Jackie Chan movie Crime Story to get a glimpse, and they had some amazing scenes, but everyone had already moved out. It did have some crazy cool action scenes though with some long cuts.
Should have called it the Nintendo Top.
Same, honestly. I’d kill for a remaster or a proper sequel.
Loved Freelancer! Did you try the Everspace games? They’re the closest to a spiritual successor that I’ve played.
On the other hand, when Seagal was asked about the incident, he directly denied the allegations, calling LeBell a “sick, pathological scumbag liar”, and offered the name of a witness who could prove LeBell had fabricated the entire story. The claim garnered a heated response from LeBell’s trainee Ronda Rousey, who said that Seagal was the one lying, and declared “If [Seagal] says anything bad about Gene to my face, I’d make him crap his pants a second time.”
A save-scumming wizard could be a great main character.
I’m glad you did. What craftsmanship!
My favorite Steven Seagal story, from his Wikipedia page:
Seagal has been accused by former stunt performers who have worked with him, including Kane Hodder, Stephen Quadros, and Gene LeBell, of intentionally hitting stuntmen during scenes. Additionally, while serving as stunt coordinator for Out for Justice, LeBell allegedly got into an on-set altercation with Seagal over his mistreatment of some of the film’s stunt performers. After the actor claimed that, due to his aikido training, he was “immune” to being choked unconscious, LeBell offered Seagal the opportunity to prove it. LeBell is said to have placed his arms around Seagal’s neck, and once Seagal said “go”, proceeded to choke him unconscious, with Seagal losing control of his bowels. Seagal bodyguard and stuntman Steven Lambert stated he was present and said that a confrontation did happen, during which Seagal elbowed LeBell before he could lock the hold on Seagal, after which LeBell flipped Seagal.
What is your budget?
I don’t play many free games, they’re too expense.
On The Art of Dice by the Roman emperor Claudius would be both trivial and fascinating, I’m sure.
Nice! I’m playing mostly enhanced vanilla, I’ll dig into OpenMW at some point though. I had no idea there was a decent multiplayer mod!
Still going on UFO50. There’s still a couple games I haven’t even tried yet.
Also, doing a modded playthrough of Morrowind, which is a TES game that I missed when it came out due to having an underspec PC. Its magic creation system is ridiculous and a lot of fun to play with. I wish they’d put something like that in TES6, but I’m not gonna hold my breath (without making a spell for it, anyway).
The Steam controller is amazing for Elden Ring and similar games. It makes the camera so much easier to deal with.
There has been a concerted push by reactionary media to demonize it.
The same thing happened with issues like the estate tax, lawsuits against corporations, police reform, etc.
