I don’t like him. He’s angry at everything and his videos are a chore to watch. I also feel like he’s sometimes a bit out of touch (I don’t like ads or paying for digital content either, but if no one pays for it, it‘ll stop existing) and a bit pessimistic (yes, companies aren’t your friends, but not everything you perceive as negative is done out of malice, sometimes people are just not thinking stuff through).
However, I do appreciate him as a right to repair activist.

Rey is a wonderful example here. Your acquaintance dislikes Rey because she’s a woman. I (and a bunch of other people) dislike Rey because she’s terribly written. If you exchanged her for a man he would still be terribly written. But of course, that legitimate criticism is often lumped in with people crying „woke“ at the sight of a female protagonist.

Exactly. $100 is a lot of money, however games are cheaper than ever these days (adjusted for inflation) and $100 for no micro transactions sounds fair.

Well, no one‘s saying Spotifys implementation is any good. But the theory that true randomness doesn’t always feel random still stands true. Most music player/streaming apps implement this in some way. Some better, some worse.
And it’s voice based navigation is way ahead of Google’s. I mean, both get you there, sure. But no google, I don’t need to know I’m taking a turn on ST257315, when the road doesn’t even have a name sign. Telling me to turn right towards XY at the stop sign (as apple does) makes wayyy more sense.

If Telegram is backdoored, not for Russia. While the founder and owner is Russian, him and the company left Russia in 2014 when they didn’t want to comply with their regime (I think. Don’t remember the details). The company is based in Dubai since 2017.

Well, they haven’t so far removed denuvo from a single game, even those that have been cracked already. Ubisoft is big enough, that they might have their very own deal with Denuvo

Thanks to denuvo and there currently not being any active group capable of cracking denuvo, it’s not a guarantee the game will be cracked. Assassin‘s creed mirage took until last month, over a year after release, for a pirated copy to be available and it uses a debug executable, which may not become available for any other games or at least not in a timely manner. It might not be possible to play those games without the BS. Or on Linux, if it doesn’t run without kernel access for RAM monitoring
People stopped ripping CDs and instead started downloading them (legally) via iTunes or (illegally) via napster or similar software more than a decade before disc drives became obsolete. Even the launch of Spotify predates the removal of disc drives from mainstream PCs/laptops.
Also, teenagers still know about CDs. They just don’t see a reason to use them and to some degree, I agree. While not having to worry about monthly payments and availability of your own library, music discovery has never been easier. I don’t want to buy a whole album from an artist that has maybe one good song. I also want to be able to listen to whatever song comes to mind, whenever it does. I don’t want to be limited by the CDs I have in my collection or whatever my friends might be able to send me.
With my shared family subscription to a streaming service, I can listen to whatever song I like, whenever I like for the price of 4 CDs a year. And I’m definitely adding more than 4 albums to my library every year.
Not having to pay for hardware transcoding/tonemapping is the biggest „selling“point for Jellyfin. I used to have plex before. It worked well but I didn’t want to pay 100€ for transcoding. Never tried emby for the very same reason.
