I thought this was going to be like the old web browser falling sand game. Disappointed it’s not but this still looks pretty fun.

Is there any chance that companies are using the tariffs as an excuse to raise prices when they wanted to anyway? Like a lot of these companies have more money than God already. They could eat the extra cost and be fine. Seems like they’re just being greedy to me.
I don’t think Leto would’ve been able to go through with the Golden Path either if he had ever been a normal human. Leto even calls himself an abomination which is what the Bene Gesserit were testing for at the beginning of the entire story. Paul is a human so he has flaws and can’t follow all the way through with dehumanizing himself to realize the Golden Path. Leto was never human in the first place. He was an abomination so the path was achievable for him. That’s my interpretation anyway.
Yep, I remember the line from the book. To me that shows self reflection/awareness that Hitler would’ve never been capable of. Paul understands that he does monstrous things and might be a monster himself. I think it really wears on him which is why the ending happens the way it does. There were ways out of the situation if he really wanted to go full blown space Hitler.
I’ve always thought the space Hitler thing was a pretty big misunderstanding or generalization of Paul’s character. Hitler couldn’t see the result of all outcomes and pick the least bad outcome in the same way. Paul could literally see the future and decided his path would result in the least amount of suffering. No human has ever been forced to experience that burden. I think he’s a fascinating character and the oversimplifications irk me a bit.
Might as well take their time since there’s like a 12 year time skip in the books.

This is the first game I thought of when I saw Avowed gameplay.
Microsoft has seen itself as a platform company harkening back to the Ballmer days. That’s what his infamous “developers developers developers” coke fueled rant was all about. They make the bones of a platform and count on 3rd parties to build it out into something usable. If that never happens, the project is DoA. If that does happen as intended, they just buy the companies that do it best.
The videos only being 6 seconds long really helped with the appeal.
How many 8 year old computers still function halfway decently? Most of those people are probably due for an upgrade whether they know it or not.
Even if we go with this popular narrative, no one is actually going to immediately run to throw out their working Win10 PC when Microsoft cuts off updates. They’ll just continue to use it insecurely. Just like millions of people did and still do with Win7.
This is the issue with using a proprietary operating system in general. Eventually they’ll cut you off arbitrarily because there’s a profit motive to do so. Relying on them to keep your system updated and secured indefinitely is a naive prospect to begin with.
Somewhat old CPUs are 8 years old+ now? Windows 11 is crap, but I don’t think the hardware requirements are the reason.
Totally agree with most of what you said. Trust me, I’m ready for a new Civ game. Just don’t feel like getting gouged especially for a series that routinely goes on deep sales.
I would’ve bought it day 1 assuming reviews come back okay, but I refuse to ever spend $70 on a base game. I’ll wait for a sale if that’s what they’re charging.
There’s no Clash of Clans style micro transactions if that’s what you’re concerned about. There’s not pay to win. The in-app purchases are just for more content. The Anthology bundle should include everything from what I can tell.
I don’t think Nintendo will ever do it. Goes against their most basic philosophy.
Mastodon has to be one of the most heavily moderated social media apps I’ve ever used. I’m sure it depends on the instance, but that’s kind of the nature of open source. Anyone can use the technology to post what they want. That’s why defederation exists. In what way would you want it to be even more moderated?
Haven’t seen anyone mention the biggest deal breaker with these for me. The thermal and dust management is truly awful. They tend to overheat and collect dust super easily. You’re lucky if you get 4 years out of these things before they burn themselves out. And guess what? Barely repairable to boot.
I think cloud gaming is their solution to gaming on Linux. In which case, yuck.
