It’s totally possible to build a new network of great friends at literally any point in your life! I have moved multiple times over the years to entirely different regions where I knew zero people and I have always eventually found new friends. (I’m also autistic and introverted, so if I can do it, most people probably can.)

Sometimes it might take a while to find the activities you like, and thus the people who share your interests, but they’re out there! If nothing else, it helps to start going on a regular basis to a local bar that hosts live music and just nurse a drink (even a soda if you’re sober) and hang out, you’ll start sussing out the social fabric in the area pretty quick.

I’m a American living in the US and even I can only guess which date they meant. Everyone should just use the three letter month instead of the number when writing for other humans.

Presumably they are referring to the US election day, but I feel like that was hardly an unexpected facepalm result, considering how many political facepalm moments there were along the way leading up to it.

I don’t think they were intending to be snarky. At least, not towards you. Perhaps towards society brainwashing us all into thinking that generations are useful in any meaningful way.

If anything, they are encouraging you. Go find stuff you like, it doesn’t matter how old/young the other people who like it are. If you can’t find those communities, make one! That’s one of the beautiful things about Lemmy; it is what you make of it.

I suppose we could “fix” it in a similar way by inviting people to a specific instance instead of pointing them at join-lemmy.org.(Although that site has improved massively since the last time I saw it.)

Don’t even mention instances or federation, just say “hey you should join me on <favorite instance URL>”.

Once they are using it, that’s the first hurdle, and they’ll notice pretty quickly that there are other servers that all (mostly) talk to each other.

I think I’d just bring extra food the next day so both I and they can eat. Clearly someone isn’t able to bring their own food for whatever reason, and I can’t really blame them for choosing to eat when the alternative is starving, even if it is annoying that I missed my lunch that day.

However, if you’re talking about art, then Slushe is a fairly nice NSFW art site (though it may be abandoned by it’s creators, last blog activity was over a year ago) that varied artists post plenty of stuff regularly.

Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be anything better than Calibre at the moment. (Though, I’m happy to be proven wrong!) Nothing against Calibre, it’s functionally amazing free software and it works very well; I said “unfortunately” because the interface is extremely dated and clunky and confusing to operate. Once you get it working, it’s very nice though. As long as you never have to go fiddling with it again, because every time you’ve gotta reacquaint with it’s weird UI. Still, it really is the best available at the moment, and it’s free so that’s awesome.

My favorite way to set it up is using the linuxserver image, which has a web-based VNC built into it, so you can remotely run the app on a headless server and then use your browser to interact with it.

I have Calibre configured to monitor a folder for new stuff I throw into it, where it’ll automatically fetch metadata and put it into the database. Calibre also has an OPDS server built in, to which I point a nicer frontend for reading comics. Currently that is Kavita which provides a decent web UI for both books and comics.

Anyhow, I believe you could enter data about your physical comics into the Calibre database, and then view the metadata with something like Kavita, though of course you’d be skipping the reading features.

On the other hand, I think it’s a valid criticism of the movies that, for all the amazing things he did in that trilogy, Peter Jackson failed to explain something minor that turned out to be a lingering issue for some segment of the wider audience that would consume that adaptation.

Wow this is amazing, that music is perfect for it. The shots of the Enterprise heading into the cloud while accompanied by this score felt so exploratory and awe inspiring. I don’t think I’ve ever been brought to tears by the original score in that movie, but this one did it.

Why is that impossible? Create the post in [email protected], or [email protected] or [email protected] (those are the games OP keeps harping on) or whatever game they’re interested in.

I guess if there’s no existing community, that’s an issue. Create one, then. Post the hyper-specific question into that new community, and then go post an announcement of the community in the broader games communities and let people interested naturally filter in.

I’m not a Lemmy expert by any means, I’m just suggesting ways to engage with people that seems to me like it’d be more constructive and likely to be appreciated. 🤷

I looked at the comments on a few of your posts, and people are telling you exactly why they are annoyed by them.

Your posts come off as low effort spam, almost like you’re treating Lemmy communities like a Discord chat room. Also, you post very similar kinds of things about the same couple of games on the daily, and people probably get tired of seeing samey stuff in their feed.

I’ve noticed that you’re making hyper specific posts (“what do you think about X mission in rdr”) in a general gaming community. Try posting those hyper specific questions in the communities for the actual game you’re asking about, where people who want to nerd out about some random mission are more likely to be.

It’s cool that you’re trying to engage people though, I think you just need to get some more practice at reading the crowd here. Lurk more, maybe. Lemmy isn’t the other site, we don’t necessarily resonate with all the same kinds of content here.

Yeah, I agree that Vulcans would probably be naturally accepting of varied gender identification and presentation, and of varied sexual orientations. Probably similar to how the majority of the neurodiverse (especially autistic) communities among humans are accepting of gender and sexuality variations.

It strikes me as highly illogical to insist that anyone else has a better sense of what a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity is than the individual themselves. If they say “I identify with X pronouns” then obviously it is illogical to use Y pronouns when referring to that person. If they say, “I’m attracted to people like this” then it’s illogical to insist that they should instead be attracted to a different subset of people. If they express a preference for Z gender presentation, it’s illogical to insist they should prefer otherwise.

Gendered expectations are illogical relics of ancient human social structure anyway, so Vulcan society probably wouldn’t have as many of those to begin with, if any at all. Even our emotionally encumbered human cultures in the 21st century are beginning to wonder at how pointlessly gendered things have been for us.

I don’t see why it would be logical to posit that the potential for creating offspring is a necessary component of relationships. There are all manner of motivations for intimate bonding that have nothing to do with whether biological reproduction occurs. Also, adoption exists.

Arguably, the very concept of romance being a core component of relationships would be viewed by Vulcans as an illogical and unnecessary condition. I imagine the vast majority of Vulcan society would be aromantic by default.

German dubs are actually top notch

I find this ironic when compared to native language German porn, which frequently has audio that is distractingly out of sync to the point that it almost seems like it’s many minutes off. It’s not even just one studio either, it happens to a lot of them for some reason. I’m starting to wonder if there’s an industry joke that I’m not aware of which explains it, but I haven’t noticed the same issue with porn produced in other languages.

Good question… it’s not on my playlist but it’s probably actually cozy. I just don’t tend to watch that one often because it makes me feel sad.

My top 3 favorite cozy episodes are Data’s Day, Déjà Q, and Manhunt. Horny Lwaxana is an inspiration; her reactions to her daughter’s slut shaming comments are so priceless to me.
