I flat-out refuse to do business with any that requires I use an app. I won’t even scan a QR code for a restaurant menu; that’s my cue to go eat elsewhere.

I think fry.gs is the main mod’s own instance.

Though best practice, as much as it exists in the Fediverse, would be to host the community assets from the home instance of the community.

I don’t have many, but I’ll share my most used one:

My lamps and overhead lights are all smart bulbs. I’ve got several different modes (lamps only, overhead only, all lights, etc) and can control them with a unified dimmer.

The problem I had at first was that the overhead lights overwhelmed the lamps, and everything was too bright. So I added a step to the dimmer control to set the overheads to 75% of the dimmer value while keeping the lamps 1:1. Works great. I can even toggle that on and off.

Using HomeAssistant with all the logic in NodeRED.

Nice! Yeah, I’ve been a big fan of it. Planning to eventually replace my custom Snapdrop with Pairdrop since they’ve made quite a few other improvements.

Quickly send files, paste images/text snippets between devices.

I’m using the older Snapdrop (which PD was forked from) with some patches I made to:

• Work behind Authelia for SSO + 2FA
• Use the display name provided by Authelia instead of the random usernames it gives out by default
• Send transfers over the internet without dealing with the temporary “rooms” that Pairdrop uses (it’s behind Authelia, so only authorized users can get to it).

It has 100% replaced emailing things to myself or shuffling files to/from Nextcloud. I probably use it to send text (URLs, clipboard contents, etc) to/from my phone as much as I use it for sending files back and forth.

There’s basically two executables involved:

• step is the CLI app used to request certificates
• step-ca is the server process the step client connects to

I’ve got the CA portion bundled into Docker. It can also run as an ACME server (and is compatible with certbot).

Right, and I’m assuming Threads works on the Mastodon-style user follow paradigm, which means, currently, anyway, Lemmy wouldn’t be able to follow them directly.

But the ad-bot could, in theory, tag a Lemmy community and have that show up on Lemmy (at least, that seems to be how Mastodon content arrives here).

My instance preemptively defederated from Threads, but I’m assuming those ads are going to be served to Threads users via API, right, and not federated out?

That guidance is for NginxPlus, but you can compile the dynamic module yourself with the community versions.

I’m only about halfway through it, but the daughter looks like Catherine from Veep which makes her abominable behavior feel very “out of character”.

I’d go further and demand that the team I’m hired for re-write the app completely and not just re-engineer it from the AI slop codebase.
