  • He does go a little over the top sometimes so his videos could be considered to be a bit overdramatic with a little sprinkle of rage bait.

However, I have rarely have disagreed with his views on consumer protection. Actually… I have never disagreed with his views on consumer protection.

Him getting viewers pissed off is not what I would consider healthy, but the rage might get some people to stop showing their bellies to large companies. Regardless, his videos do walk a fine line for me personally. He should be getting income from his videos, which is fine. If he ever cracks and starts getting people pissed off expressly for the purpose of income, I’ll drop his videos really quick.

  • Make note of the instances you are on. Communities with the same names can be radically different across instances.

Each instance may have their own collective view on what is right or wrong, good or bad. For example, I saw that you mentioned the “T” word (or was in a discussion about it) on .ml the other day and that is a recipe for an interesting discussion. You do what the heck you want, but each community will have their own special reaction.

I stumbled into lemmygrad a couple of years ago, somehow. It didn’t take but about 5 mins for me to be labeled a fascist baby killer.

  • I was wondering today if singularities might actually be the purest form of “nothing” and the mass of a blackhole around that void is what is keeping that void from collapsing, kind of like a massive traffic jam. The space would have to be perfectly empty: No vacuum energy, no gravity, no fields of any kind.

Yes, this is a silly idea and just a weird thought experiment, TBH.

However, it’s much more easy to visualize than a traditional infinite singularity since it can be rationalized in a simple 3D space… It’s just a ball of nothing.

Hell, even if the void was the size of a pinhead, the entire force of the universe would be “squeezing it”, trying to move energy into a space that contained none.

Ok, that probably broke a few hundred thousand universal rules of physics, but it’s easy to speculate about something we can’t see or study.

Photons are the smallest unit of energy that can be transferred between a light wave and a different particle.

That is a much better description than what I have heard for the last 30 years: “A photon is a packet of energy”. That made no sense to me back then, and makes no sense to me now and, IMHO, doesn’t quite give a good visualization. It’s a placeholder, and I suppose it is slightly accurate depending on how “packet” is defined.

That’ll break a few brains. To elaborate with an example: From the perspective of a photon, it’s “life” is over as soon as it begins. Even though it takes about 8 mins for a photon to travel from the sun to the earth from our perspective, no time at all has passed for it.

    (Correct me if I misspoke.)

  • Maybe. People with more technical knowledge should understand that LLMs aren’t magic or sentient and have some severe limitations. Hell, I have been tinkering with ML and ANNs for a better part of 15 years or so and they can be extremely useful. (I am no expert and never indend to be.)

It’s the marketing wank, scams, art theft and all the bullshit that pisses me off now. In that regard, I am squarely in the “Fuck AI” category. There is absolutely nothing phenomenal that has come of this recent bubble in the commercial space. AI generated images are mostly trash, articles are riddled with gross factual errors, phishing and other scams are more realistic (and maybe even more dynamic) now and public forums contain even more annoying bots. And the worst bit is that AI generated media, like music, is just a collection of averaged values with no originality.

That bell curve represents something but it isn’t IQ.
