I use a resource monitor called Resources. It has a GPU tab that shows the GPU decoder usage go up when playing a video.

What I want is very simple: I want software that doesn’t send anything to the Internet without some explicit intent first. All of that work to try to make this feature plausibly private is cool engineering work, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with implementing a feature like this, but it should absolutely be opt-in.
Top comment of HN sums me up best.
Another HN comment warns about other breach of privacy option. By default, Apple collects your searches in Safari, Siri, and Spotlight. You can disable it in Settings>Search>Help Apple Improve Search.
He’ll be Cooking if iPads have better software.
Google products work on pretty much every platform, whereas with Apple you’re out of luck if you use any non-Apple platforms.
Well, that’s annoying. I just turned them all off, but I hope all that data is stored and operated on locally.
I was greeted by the image playground icon on my home screen and the icon was… not great.
Things did not get any better as I tried making images in it.
I also find it a bit alarming that Apple links user content to you. Seems like they’re either tracking the pictures you upload and/or images created.
That was there before 133, don’t remember the exact release that added it.
Mac Mini doesn’t come with a keyboard. So unless you’ve owned an iMac or bought a keyboard separately, you won’t have that convenience.
That being said, I haven’t touched the power button on my Mac Mini since I got mine on the 8th.
Brand new Mac Mini, just came out today. It has a full year of warranty left.
My HDMI tops out at 144hz, issue still present.
1440p at 170Hz with the DisplayPort. But I also tried going down to 60hz, but in that brief time I did that, that made the flickering issue even more apparent.
I believe it’s an Apple Silicon limitation in their lower end chips.
On iOS, I feel like doing things take a few extra taps and swipes than they would on Android.
But on the whole apps made for iOS feel higher quality. Even Google’s own apps are better on iOS. I feel like the problem is that Apple forces developers to adopt changes quickly, whereas Google lets apps use years old API versions.
I’m tempted by this too (or maybe the upcoming MacBook Air). I’m just worried that I’m not going to like MacOS. I’m pretty happy with Linux, like FOSS, but Apple just has the best hardware at the moment.
Nope, both on the same Wifi network. Can’t think of why it would be showing differently. Not even force refreshing the page did anything. But I just checked again and now it’s showing the right prices.
Huh
It shows up as $599 on my iPhone, but not desktop.
Lowest I’m seeing from the preorder screen is $799.
$200 base price increase, ouch.
Edit: apparently it starts at $599, but for some reason Apple is showing me $799 for the base model.
Make sure VA-API is enabled in about:config with “media.ffmpeg.vaapi.enabled”=true. It should be enabled by default in nightly.
