It’s entirely cash based. Sure, some parts are “non-profit”, but at the root of it, they depend on cash based services that can pull the plug at any time.
It’s also completely controlled, directly or indirectly, by localized political regimes.

Correct, except that more people buying used laptops will incentivize people to upgrade more often as they can depend on a strong secondhand market to recoup some of the cost of the new one by selling the old one.
I just tell it to back up my laptops every hour anyway. If it’s not on, it just doesn’t happen, but it’s generally on enough to capture what I need.
I’ve used it the last few years to do Advent of Code (https://adventofcode.com/) and that’s been fun and challenging. Definitely recommend it. Better than trolling through a book of “now do this” examples if you’ve done other languages in the past.
Sadly, the deteriorating conditions are exactly what some groups want. Those are also the ones who can affect change, either with guns or money.
“$9-million” shouldn’t that be at least a “b” instead of an “m”?!
For other potentially worse manufacturers. I hate how far it’s all gone, but even buying a used/secondhand device is empowering the prior own to support one of these manufacturers.
Why would you have been okay with it enough to purchase one in the first place? As an American, it’s always been pretty clear that American companies are filled with horrible data management. They actively lobby against any sort of GDPR or equivalent data laws and regularly leak data with no real ramifications.
My dead grandmother use to tell me stories about the bank account information of everyone in my neighborhood…
Tesla stock is tumbling. Don’t blame BYD, blame Elon.
Elon has been running Tesla in easy mode where there’s basically no competition. Now that there’s a bunch of other electric car makers on the market he doesn’t know how to deal with that. BYD included, but they’re not the only one with valid competition.
Also, he’s a terrible person to have as your figurehead.
I would love it if the board voted Elon out. I know it won’t happen because they’re a bunch of sycophants, but “Elons antics and poor decisions are causing us to lose money” is a great reason to do so.
If you’re building a music library, and you’re NOT using some sort of lossless format, I’d love to know why.
Because MP3 is the only thing my car stereo, my wife’s car stereo and my daughter’s book shelf system will reliably read. Sometimes they’ll work with an m4a, but it’s hit or miss.
Now I always rip to FLAC & MP3, but other than local listening, it tends to be all MP3’s that get used.
To be fair, the ones supporting this don’t think they are losing freedoms. They’re mostly in the groups unaffected by these changes, so it’s a bet positive in their eyes.
It’s easier to roll out if no one can saturate it!
This is definitely the most important thing for the country and for human space exploration as a whole.

Turns out the group of people who look at mid nineties Laura Croft and think “that low polygon count asthenic is exactly how I like my women and trucks, I’ve got lots of disposable income to buy a truck that can’t do many truck things well, and I’m glad a far right ketamine fueled tech bro is running the company!” Is a small number of people.
Honestly, I’ve got lots of hours in Early Access games. That said, they were like $20 when I bought them in EA and as content gets added and they get closer to launch, the price goes up.
I don’t think that’s the same as pre-orders though.
The only digital game I’ve ever preordered was City Skylines 2. I was on vacation the day it came out and didn’t want to miss out on playtime and waste my PTO. Definitely worth it, and I enjoyed it and the lead up to release. (I’m on the fenced whether I enjoy it more than the first, but that’s mostly because I’ve got so many add ons for the first that the second seems like it’s missing things. But it worked well for me and I got hours and hours of playing in that day.
If any other company dropped net profits by 71% they’d be firing their CEOs (well giving them a golden parachute to gtfo) and having some major shake ups.
Everyone I know that would have left Facebook over this already left years ago during other scares/changes/security issues.
I dropped it cold Turkey about 9yrs ago and never looked back.
Berserker!!!
