The 1950s boom was built on two things. Subsidizing a middle class instead of corporate (awesome). And the notion that a mediocre white male was more valuable in any job role than a woman or a non-white male.

The 1950s was, in part, built on the backs of women sent home from jobs after the war to have those jobs taken by folks who may or may not have been less qualified, as it was based entirely on gender, and to lesser extent, color.

Woman’s minds were squandered. I encourage you to ask about grandma back in the day. How mean was she? How mentally I’ll was she? How many suicides or addictions occurred? The mean stories abound at this time for a reason. Alternatively there’s the paper thin personality-less woman who avoids anything even remotely confrontational.

    Ask your family.

Equality before the law is introduced and a subset of men who don’t have coping skills for not having power over other human beings, lack capacity to stand as an individual, lose their collective shit.

  • The reform needed is money based at the corporate level. Watch episode 1 of The Pitt and listen to all the commentary about the system, including the talk with the administrator, happening around the medical cases. THAT is the stuff that needs fixing. “Boarders” as they talk about, are very real.

Reform involves breaking big pharma. Reform involves breaking the nonsensical pricing practices of insurance companies. A CT scan should have 1 price. Period. But it does not.

If Kennedy had his way in 2020, there’d be no vaccine. Hospitals would’ve shut down because healthcare workers likely would not have stayed without it. (Yes, a sliver of workers into nonsense and anti vax left, but let’s not inflate those numbers alongside the majority of doctors, nurses, and other staff.)

Kennedy reform involves snake oil and nonsense instead of actual medicine. Raw milk? Really?

Also, the LA Times has gone fascist.

The primary problem is most people don’t understand inflation. Inflation is the speed at which things get more expensive. There is always creep up.

That’s what the 3% “cost of living” yearly raise is supposed to cover. It’s not really a “good job” raise, it just keeps your wage exactly the same as the prior year alongside inflation. Another thing a lot of people don’t understand, but that’s a bit of a digression.

So. Inflation speeds or slows but never reverses. Prices never go back down unless there’s recession. When the DC people talked about the economy being good they meant, in part, that inflation was fixed. We were back to 3%. The problem with that is it doesn’t bring down the price of anything. It only means that prices stopped jumping up so high compared to 2019.

So this idea that 2016 prices would return with Trump is based in a misunderstanding of economics. Prices don’t go back down.

In fact, like the COVID jump, I wouldn’t be surprised if the egg industry left prices up once the avian flu passes.

  • I haven’t done office in a while. The inception of the subscription model killed it completely for me. Scrivener is better organized for big projects. And there’s plenty of small word programs that get the job done for things like resumes and such, in lieu of Microsoft Word.

I had an older student office disc. Microsoft wouldn’t allow installation.

And then Adobe stealthed onto my elderly parents computer and killed all their photo files. Demoralizing to say the least. They won’t even engage their favorite hobby any more.

    The enshittification is real.
